چکیده

This work experimentally investigates the dissociation of CO2 in an atmospheric pressure surface-wave discharge. A 2-kW microwave power supply is used to sustain the plasma contained in 1-cm-diameter quartz tube. Optical emission spectroscopy is recorded at varying axial positions along the quartz discharge tube to give evidence of the different species present. Diagnostics taken with a residual gas analyzer are used to monitor the evolution of atomic and molecular species in the system, revealing CO and oxygen as the main products of the plasma-chemical reactions. For plasma-assisted CO2 dissociation to be a practical and cost-effective solution for the climate change challenges, the process must meet certain standards of efficiency. Therefore the energy efficiency and conversion efficiency of the plasma system is examined for CO2 dissociation.

Dissociation of Co2 in a Radio-frequency Plasma Source

Current dependence on fossil fuels to satisfy increasing energy needs has created an overabundance of CO2 emissions. This project aims to use a radio frequency (rf) plasma source to dissociate CO2 completely into solid carbon and gaseous oxygen to reduce CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere. An rf plasma excited by a double helix antenna with an axial magnetic field is used to create the CO2 di...

Efficiency of CO2 Dissociation in a Radio-Frequency Discharge

One possible solution to mitigating the effects of high atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) is the use of a plasma source to break apart the molecule into carbon monoxide (CO) and oxygen. This work experimentally investigates the efficiency of dissociation of CO2 in a 1-kW radio-frequency (rf) plasma source operating at 13.56-MHz in a low-pressure discharge. Mass spectrometry dia...

Non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma source design and construction using Argon as the working gas for wound healing

In this research, a non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma jet device was constructed for skin wound treatment. For this reason, five mice were treated for five consecutive days for 30 s, in a daily manner. Natural wound healing time was monitored and compared with the treated one in 12 consecutive days. The measurement of voltage, current and power waveforms of the plasma source, the optical ...

CO2 dissociation using the Versatile atmospheric dielectric barrier discharge experiment (VADER)

Reviewed by: Michael Keidar, George Washington University, USA J. P. Sheehan, University of Michigan, USA Dissociation of CO2 is investigated in an atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) with a simple, zero dimensional (0-D) chemical model and through experiment. The model predicts that the primary CO2 dissociation pathway within a DBD is electron impact dissociation and electr...
